Amazonia, Peru | Phil Torres

Entomologist and adventurer Phil Torres, who hosts a popular YouTube Channel called The Jungle Diaries, recently took a trip to the Peruvian Amazon where he captured footage of eight different butterfly species fluttering on turtles to drink their tears.

This phenomenon occurs because the sodium in the tears is an important part of the butterflies’ diet that is not otherwise available in the foods they consume. The search for sodium is common in the wild, and can also be found in jaguar feces and river mud, according to Torres.
