The internet could change next week, and not in a good way

You may have heard about the efforts in Europe to reform copyright law. The debate has been ongoing in the European Parliament for months. If approved next week, these new regulations would require us to automatically filter and block content that you upload without meaningful consideration of your right to free expression.

We respect the copyrights and trademarks of others, and we take all reports seriously to ensure that your creative expression is protected. We make this clear in our Community Guidelines. There’s already a legal framework that works and is fair: Today we take down posts and media that contain allegedly infringing content when we receive a valid DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown request. We also provide clear-cut ways for people to fight back if they believe their removed content was not a true violation. These instances are monitored and reported and live in our biannual transparency report

The suggestion to use automated filters for issues of copyright is short-sighted at best and harmful at worst. Automated filters are unable to determine whether a use should be considered “fair use” under the law and are unable to determine whether a use is authorized by a license agreement. They are unable to distinguish legitimate parody, satire, or even your own personal pictures that could be matched with similar photographs that have been protected by someone else. We don’t believe that technology should replace human judgment.

Tumblr is and always has been a place for creative expression, and these new regulations would only make it harder for you to express yourself with the freedom and clarity you do so now.

If you access Tumblr from Europe and want to act, you can find more information on saveyourinternet.eu

Please reblog this as much as you reblogged the posts about Net Neutrality.

If Article 13 is approved, European People might be basically banned from uploading any fan content.

You won’t get new fanfics from people in Europe.

You won’t get new gifs from people in Europe.

You won’t get new fanart from people in Europe.

Because they’ll be automatically filtered and blocked!

We might leave Tumblr and other fandom pages.

And if we’re getting all our content blocked?

You might lose some of your favourite followers/mutuals.

You might not get to read the rest of that fic you’re dying to read – simply because the writer lives in the wrong country.

So do whatever you can to help us stop this.

Reblog this.

I’m American. I live right in the southwest and let me tell you, it’s hell over here right now, but it will become a lot worse if Article 13 is passed.

You’ve probably heard about Article 13, and if you haven’t, go watch this video right now. Whatever you’re doing can wait for sixteen minutes and two seconds, because a second-long vote could destroy everything online.

Whether you’re from Europe or not, this law could affect you, so you should care Article 13 because it is going to destroy the online lives that you have built. No more posting memes, no more remixes, and no more YouTubers from anywhere.

Jacksepticeye will no longer be able to upload.

Markiplier will no longer be able to upload.

MatPat won’t.

Thomas Sanders.

Dan and Phil.

How to Basic.

All of your favorite content creators are at risk of losing their jobs because people want stricter laws on copyright, which will support the larger media companies but kill smaller creators. And because of this, we may lose everything online.

So spread the word! Reblog this, reblog other people’s posts, find petitions, write your own posts! If you’re in Europe, contact your MEP’s and get them to understand how it will affect the people who use the internet.

Please.

2500 year old mummies uncovered in Dahshur

An Egyptian archaeological mission working in the south-east of the pyramid of Amenemhat II in Dahshur uncovered ancient Egyptian burial.

The burial has eight limestone sarcophagi with colorful mummy cases that were made of cartonnage and dates to the Late Period (664-332 BC). Three of them preserved in good condition.

Dr. Mustafa Waziri, secretary-general of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities and head of the mission, said that the mission began its work last August. He added that the sarcophagi are now stored in storerooms for restoration and they will be included in the museum display plans for the several museums being established by the Ministry of Antiquities in Egypt.

ALICE ROOSEVELT WAS HARDCORE. “She was known as a rule-breaker in an era when women were under great pressure to conform. The American public noticed many of her exploits. She smoked cigarettes in public, swore at officials, rode in cars with men, stayed out late partying, kept a pet snake named Emily Spinach (Emily as in her spinster aunt and Spinach for its green color) in the White House, and was seen placing bets with a bookie.

So what I’m reading here is, she was a Roosevelt?

Well I have a new hero.

Her whole wikipedia article is gold

“When her father was governor of New York, he and his wife proposed that Alice attend a conservative school for girls in New York City. Pulling out all the stops, Alice wrote, ‘If you send me I will humiliate you. I will do something that will shame you. I tell you I will.’”

“Her father took office in 1901 following the assassination of President William McKinley, Jr. in Buffalo (an event that she greeted with “sheer rapture.”)“

“During the cruise to Japan, Alice jumped into the ship’s pool fully clothed, and coaxed a congressman to join her in the water. (Years later Bobby Kennedy would chide her about the incident, saying it was outrageous for the time, to which the by-then-octogenarian Alice replied that it would only have been outrageous had she removed her clothes.”

“She was dressed in a blue wedding dress and dramatically cut the wedding cake with a sword (borrowed from a military aide attending the reception)”

“When it came time for the Roosevelt family to move out of the White House, Alice buried a Voodoo doll of the new First Lady, Nellie Taft, in the front yard.”

“Later, the Taft White House banned her from her former residence—the first but not the last administration to do so. During Woodrow Wilson’s administration (from which she was banned in 1916 for a bawdy joke at Wilson’s expense)…”

“As an example of her attitudes on race, in 1965 her African-American chauffeur and one of her best friends, Turner, was driving Alice to an appointment. During the trip, he pulled out in front of a taxi, and the driver got out and demanded to know of him, “What do you think you’re doing, you black bastard?” Turner took the insult calmly, but Alice did not and told the taxi driver, “He’s taking me to my destination, you white son of a bitch!”

“To Senator Joseph McCarthy, who had jokingly remarked at a party “Here’s my blind date. I am going to call you Alice”, she sarcastically said “Senator McCarthy, you are not going to call me Alice. The trashman and the policeman on my block call me Alice, but you may not.”

I love this woman.

WOMEN WHO NEED FUCKEN MOVIES.

I WOULD WATCH THIS SHIT 20000X OVER
