I work with a lot of Brazilians since I handle international corporate insurance. I’ve had two of them break down in tears on me, and the third requested a job transfer to a different country because she’s black and terrified for her kids. She doesn’t even care about a potential pay cut–she just wants out.

I have a co-worker in my office who is a Brazilian immigrant who is in a perpetual state of terror because her brother and his partner of 20+ years can’t get out.

I have had two requests from businesses I insure to write trip travel policies that arrange ‘business trips’ to other countries for extensive amounts of time for their Brazilian employees. Like, year-long trips. One of my clients literally said, “It worked for us in the 40s.”

Do you understand how fucked up this is?

This is a WW2 tactic used to save the lives of Nazi targets.

History is literally repeating itself, and no one cares yet because the targets are minorities.

It’s time to start paying close attention to what’s going on, because once shit like this gets established, it only ramps up into a full-blown horrorshow.

Get your asses out and vote, because the people who support this for damn sure are, and the system is rigged in their favor. We’re primed to fall headfirst into this territory ourselves.

Not only do you vote, keep attentive, keep your heart open, and be ready to help however you can, not just here in America, but abroad. The world is not so large that you can ignore a crisis like this wherever it occurs, and one day it could very well be us in this position.

We’re halfway there; what did you think the synagogue attack and grocery store shooting were about? Complacency will undo us all in the rise of facism and racism and hatred. There is already a will, and our guns are legal and easily obtained.

Complacency kills. Apathy lets it occur again, and with impunity.

Avengers AU – If Tony was Peter’s biological father

Tony is super protective of his son. And Peter, inspired by his dad, becomes Spiderman anyway (his dad and his Uncle Rhodey figure him out in a second though).

My other Avengers AUs

Just wanted to add:

Every single person who talks about ‘haha Egyptian curses’ as if they were some supernatural beings (or, possibly, aliens) and not just black people who were good at building owes me $10

*ding ding ding* Spooky PoC culture trope for $500 Alex

#The Romans are somehow never spooky and those guys did shit to chickens that makes the Egyptians look tame

like seriously can we get some “I’m scared of the Romans” posts up in here because if ever there were a group of bastards who WOULD put a curse on anything that couldn’t be nailed down…

I was once present when a lead curse tablet was excavated and it was some dude cursing whomever had stolen his favourite cloak. He’d stabbed the lead it many times.

Then there was an addendum that said that he revoked the curse because no one stole it, it was his mother who’d taken it for washing.

#the romans are a riot and y’all should fear them

#the Egyptians won’t even leave Egypt to get you

#they’re lazy af

and also incredibly practical so WAY less likely to curse you and leave that up to whatever god/karma/crazy random happenstance and far MORE likely to just whack you over the head with a bowl.

I work in a museum featuring the Roman Baths from when the Romans first landed in England in 43 AD and we’ve found lead curses where someone’s stolen their clothes from the apodyterium (changing room) and they hope Sulis Minerva pulls their brains out through their ears.

Romans are dramatic little shits that get upset over the slightest inconvenience.

I looked through the comments, and this one was gold.

Fear the Romans not the Egyptians, kids. FEAR THEM

The way that we learn about Helen Keller in school is an absolute outrage. We read “The Miracle Worker”- the miracle worker referring to her teacher; she’s not even the title character in her own story. The narrative about disabled people that we are comfortable with follows this format- “overcoming” disability. Disabled people as children.

Helen Keller as an adult, though? She was a radical socialist, a fierce disability advocate, and a suffragette. There’s no reason she should not be considered a feminist icon, by the way, and the fact that she isn’t is pure ableism- while other white feminists of that time were blatant racists, she was speaking out against Woodrew Wilson because of his vehement racism. She supported woman’s suffrage and birth control. She was an anti-war speaker. She was an initial donor to the NAACP. She spoke out about the causes of blindness- often disease caused by poverty and poor working conditions. She was so brave and outspoken that the FBI had a file on her because of all the trouble she caused.

Yet when we talk about her, it’s either the boring, inspiration porn story of her as a child and her heroic teacher, or as the punchline of ableist, misogynistic jokes. It’s not just offensive, it’s downright disgusting.
