prince zuko got you all out here thinking every dark haired antagonist boy is gonna do right in the end when zuzu was the exception not the rule

I really wish it weren’t though? I think it’s really telling that a lot of people like redemption arcs because we want to see people be good despite their pasts. The fact that there are so little redemption arcs in media is very upsetting because it just sends the message that people can’t change which we know is not true. I absolutely don’t mean this for characters like Kylo Ren though lol

Redemption arcs are hard and Zuko’s was successful for a couple of reasons:

1) Zuko wasn’t the worst character in the Fire Nation. From really early on it was shown that, compared to Zhao, Azula, and other Fire Nation leaders, Zuko was consistently more noble. He tried to be a good person and do the right thing, even when doing so led to him suffering for his actions.

2) Zuko suffered for his mistakes. He suffered when he turned away from Iroh, he suffered when he betrayed Iroh, and he suffered even after his face turn. There were consequences for his mistakes; he didn’t get off scot free because his childhood was hard. He was still held accountable by the narrative and made to take responsibility for the wrongs he did.

3) Zuko made tangible amends to the people he hurt. He rescued Hakoda, helped Katara get closure, and became Aang’s firebending master. He put in work to make up for the things he did and rebuild bridges with his new allies.

Most redemption narratives fail because the guilty party is guilty of much greater crimes than failing to capture the hero, never works to make amends, and never suffers for their mistakes. You wanted to see Zuko redeem himself because he had the capacity, wanted to do the work, and paid dearly for his mistakes.

you’re right and you should say it

Why the hell is everyone saying Alucard is all alone?!

Remember those reanimated animals Hector forged back to life? They’re still alive, you know. They didn’t die, rewatch every episode in season 2, they didn’t get injured at all. Imagine Alucard’s reaction when he’s cleaning the rooms of the castle, then he opens one door to see a room full of cute, reanimated animals that are happy to see someone since they’ve been all alone since Hector left.

Alucard would be over joyed to have someone to live with him in the castle as well. He would take the owl out of the castle to fly freely every now and then, he would play fetch with Ceazar, he would let the cat nuzzle against his leg when he would be standing up, he would even let the fox take naps on his lap as he read to all of them. This is what would actually happen. Alucard is not alone, he has 4 animals, each with great and adorable traits to keep him company.

I swear to God, if nobody draws Alucard reading a bedtime story to all four of them, I will unleash hell upon those who think this would not happen or that it’s stupid.

One time a guy and I were having an argument and he pulled a knife on me, and because I’m a dumbass idiot my response was to take out MY knife and go “what now, genius?” And what happened next was we just stood there for ten straight minutes not moving because niether of us wanted to put the knife down first and basically that’s our entire international situation regarding nuclear weapons

What happened afterwards?

#see THIS is what makes Sherlock in Elementary so unique#a lot of versions of Sherlock#or pretty much Any modern crime drama would have the brilliant detective calling the other detectives ‘idiots’#or ‘amateurs’ or basically insulting their intelligence and ability as detectives#here Sherlock is both acknowledging their skill as detectives and crediting that to their Captain’s leadership#while also acknowledging that he can’t work with them because THEY don’t like him#all the while he is accepting as fair because he’s self-aware to know he’s not easy to work with#there are ways to depict an anti-social genius without being a huge asshole to everyone#and this is it

Writing Advice: Emotion Anatomy

nijimooda:

When writing or reading emotions, it’s much more evocative to be able to name where in the body emotions are felt and how, and for this, I use this chart by Lauri Nummenmaa (source)!!!! The differences between some emotions (e.g. fear and anxiety) may be small, but it’s those key differences that can change the tide and tone of a scene!

I hope this helps!!! Happy writing!!!!!
