“There is witchcraft in our blood, in our bones we carry the magic that you could not burn away. You see, fire does not eat fire. Your mother would have taught you that if the world hadn’t convinced her that despite her body being able to bring life into this world, she is not a magical thing. Maybe the witches you burned were the daughters of something more holy than you could ever handle. So you set them alight for being different, forgetting that even the son of your God was once condemned for being too pure, too beautiful, too different for this world. History devoured your name,
but we have never forgotten
what you did, witch hunter. You see, fire never forgets. When you burned the witches you thought what you did was small.
But the flames gave birth to ideas and the ideas set alight souls. For every witch you burned
there are now a thousand witch women living differently, and standing tall.
And you may have burned some of us,
but you will never destroy us all.”

— Nikita Gill, To the Men Who Burned Witches

What earned you the rep of being a ‘rockstar author’? When I started keeping up with you, you were a ‘falls asleep after a glass of wine’ author. Is ‘rockstar’ status shared within matrimony, or did you used to jump on tables and rip your own books up during signings in the 90’s?

I’ve always (well, as soon as I entered my 30s anyway) been a Falls Asleep After A Glass of Wine author.

I think it just meant that I owned a leather jacket. And that the signing lines were very, very long. These days it probably means that if I go and give a talk, the tickets sell out fast (even if I’m not singing on the stage).

Thanks for answering. I own a leather jacket and fall asleep after a glass of wine – I will take that as an omen of career success.

why are there 5,000 people on this site holding back from doing something with literally zero repercussions for anyone in a world that will never remember the chances you didn’t take? don’t waste your time on this earth live your life slap some rice

Hi my job is literally to reset the shelves and honestly??

Slap that rice. Slap it good. patting down the bags makes it easier to stack more, which means when I have to do it it’ll be flatter and more settled and more likely that I can just slide it along without it slidin’ around.

You are doing me a FAVOR by slapping that rice.
