Salvador, Bahia, Brazil | Thiago Borba

On Saturday, November 24, the Afro Fashion Day event took place in Brazil. It was the first ever event dedicated to Brazil’s Afro Fashion with a 100% Black runway. The event brought together over two thousand people in a warm audience to watch the parade that happened at the Museu du Ritmo in Salvador. The series of portraits are named “Portraits of Wakanda.”

The project also celebrates Brazil’s #NovembroNegro, or “Black November”, Brazil’s Black awareness and resistance month. Black Awareness Day or Black Consciousness Day (Portuguese: Dia da Consciência Negra) is observed annually on November 20 as a day “to celebrate a regained awareness by the black community about their great worth and contribution to the country.”
