On November 25, 1960, the Mirabal sisters were brutally killed by the regime of Dominican President Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. To honor their memory and in defense of human rights, the General Assembly of the United Nations chose this date as the international day of the elimination of violence against women.
In Latin America, the importance of this day must not be forgotten on a continent where 1 out of 3 women have already experienced physical violence.
