Six years ago this week the Rise of the Guardians was released. Tomorrow the novel “Jack Frost:The End Becomes the Beginning” is officially published. The story moves back and forth in time. A large section of it is told from Jack’s point of view. We hear much of his story in his own words. The middle of the book is a 100 page long flashback printed on black paper. Black because it represents the great battle that begins on the dark side of the moon and leads to Jack’s origins. I didn’t intend for this flash back to leave an ominous black streak down the center of the book when shut but there it is. So many things about Jack and the Guardians have had unexpected results. I didn’t expect that a city in Texas would erect bronze statues of each Guardian or have a parade in their honor. I didn’t expect people to get Jack Frost tattoos. I didn’t expect that a legion of cosplayers would become Jack or Tooth or Sandy, North, Bunnymund or Pitch. I didn’t expect all the beautiful fan art and fiction. I didn’t expect the wide and generous embrace that has occurred and the many messages from people voicing such deep belief and devotion to what the Guardians stand for. It has been a treasure and honor to see and to be able to connect with so many of you. It is a rare thing for an author and a filmmaker. This novel was supposed to bring an end to the Guardians saga. But for so many of you who have asked for more I have genuine hope that this novel is not an ending but a beginning. Keep your frosty fingers crossed.
